STV to drop ITV News
Scottish broadcaster STV is reportedly planning to drop ITV news from its schedules and replace it with a new Scotland-centric news programme which would cover UK and International news stories from Scotland’s perceptive.
Scottish broadcaster STV is reportedly planning to drop yet another ITV programme from its schedules only this time it’s the ITV News not another drama. According to several reports STV are planning to drop the ITV national news programme in favour of something more Scotland centric which would cover UK and International news stories from a Scottish view point. The Scottish news programme would still be made by ITN, who produce ITV’s news programmes, but would no longer come from London. STV also reportedly plans to extend its local news coverage for Scottish giving the Highlands its own regional bulletin and another for the border region – however, for this they would need ITV’s agreement as Border is part of the ITV franchise.
Over the past few moments STV has dropped more and more ITV programmes from its schedules although so far they have mainly dropped dramas but the move to drop ITV’s news bulletin signals a new stage in the feud between the two broadcasters. It also signals that STV is serious in its determination to provide Scotland with a more local and relevant broadcaster and not relying on London to provide its schedules.
