UK talent search for Channel 5’s Neighbours

Popular Aussie daytime soap Neighbours could launch a talent search in the UK to find future stars for the soap.

Neighbours is planning to launch a talent search in the UK to find future stars of the popular Australian soap.

Executive producer Susan Bower revealed the plans by production company Fremantle Australia during an interview with Holy Soap. In its native country the saga has held several talent searches which have lead to the casting of Sam Clark who plays Ringo Brown among others. However, it would be a first for the show to hold a talent search in the UK.

Neighbours isn’t the only soap to have held talent searches for future stars. Following the success of Pop Stars ITV launched Soap Stars which searched for actors to make up a new family that eventually went into Emmerdale. However, the family didn’t prove a success with fans and were written out a little over a year later. Channel 4’s teen-aimed serial Hollyoaks has had more success with talent searches holding several across the years which have lead to the casting of several popular characters on each occasion.

Neighbours is shown weekdays on Five. The series is screened on Network 10 in Australia, the programme was devised by former ATV executive and Crossroads boss, Reg Watson.
