Jill Gascoine joins EastEnders
Actress Jill Gascoine, star of 80’s cop series The Gentle Touch, is to join the cast of EastEnders in the New Year.
Jill Gascoine will join the cast of BBC One soap EastEnders in the New Year as Glenda Mitchell, the mother of Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell and ex-wife of the devious Archie. Glenda walked out on her children and husband many years ago and her appearance in Walford will come as a surprise to both Mitchell girls – however, neither has forgiven their mother for walking out on them. Also surprised to see Glenda will be Peggy who remembers the Mitchell from her marriage to Archie – but the Glenda that arrives in Walford bears little resemblance to the Glenda Peggy remembers.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the cast EastEnders and I am really excited to be back on British TV.” – Jill Gascoine quoted on the EastEnders website.
Actress Jill Gascoine is probably best known to television audiences as her role of Maggie Forbes in the 1980s cop-drama The Gentle Touch. The drama ran for five years and was one of the earliest drama’s, along with the BBC’S Juliet Bravo, to revolve around female officers in the police force. The Gentle Touch was hugely successful and led to spin-off series C.A.T.S Eyes in which Gascoine reprised her role of Maggie Forbes for two seasons.
