A five-part third season aired on BBC One in the summer, titled Children Of Earth, and was a ratings and critical success. However, despite the show’s success the corporation has yet to officially green-light a fourth year but in an interview with TV Guide the creator of Torchwood states it’s likely to be renewed next year.

“The recession has hit British television, but fingers crossed, it will be a go. We expect things to start to move in January. We’ve got great ideas for the show. I think there’s a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a [fourth season],” Russell T Davies talking to TV Guide

Torchwood originally started life on BBC Three but was such a success that its second series was transferred to BBC Two. Following the success of the series on BBC Two the corporation promoted it to BBC One and ordered a five-part mini-series to form its third series. Russell T. Davies is executive producer and creator of Torchwood.
