Virgin 1 acquires more US drama

Virgin 1 has acquired more American drama picking up the Syfy Channel’s smash-hit Warehouse 13 and NBC medical drama Trauma.

Virgin 1 has acquired more American drama with the channel picking up the rights to Warehouse 13 and Trauma. Warehouse 13 aired on the SyFy Channel in America and was the channel’s highest rated drama of 2009 – week on week it increased its audience especially amongst females.

Although the series has already been shown in the UK on the British version of the Sci Fi Channel, Virgin 1 has not only picked up the repeat rights but also the second series which has already been commissioned in America.

Also acquired for Virgin 1 is NBC drama Trauma which focuses on paramedics. The new series premiered on NBC in September and has been well received by critics. However, it has suffered ratings wise from a poor-lead in from Heroes which continues to struggle to pull in the viewers.

The once popular superhero drama series is widely expected to be cancelled by the broadcaster at the end of its current series. Ratings for the fourth season have mostly been around five million – a far cry from the 14 million it once enjoyed.

Trauma hasn’t rated well either and some have tipped it for cancellation as well.
