Victoria Wood Night brings viewers for BBC Two

The comedy star pulled in ratings for the Beeb.

A Victoria Wood themed night for BBC Two, ahead of her new Christmas Special, proved to be a hit with viewers but the same can’t be said for Sky One’s festive film which didn’t prove popular with audiences at all.

The first of Sky One’s festive themed films didn’t prove popular with audiences last night. Overnight figures reveal that not even 100,000 viewers bothered to tune in. The first film starred Timothy Spall and was seen by just 87,000. The eleven part series will feature actors Bill Nighy, Peter Capaldi, Mackenzie Crook and Ross Kemp in future episodes.

Meanwhile on terrestrial television BBC Two’s Victoria Wood themed evening proved to be popular with viewers.

Documentary Victoria Wood: Seen On TV, which examined her career, was seen by 3.9 million viewers while a repeat of 2000 Christmas Special Victoria Wood with All The Trimmings was seen by 3.3 million viewers.

Soap wise and EastEnders etched nearer to the 10 million mark with 9.8 million viewers as the soap builds up to its dramatic Christmas Day episode. Coronation Street was lagging behind somewhat with 8.9 million and 8.8 million viewers for its two episodes. Emmerdale broke the 7 million mark though with 7.1 million viewers.
