Strong launch for Celebrity Big Brother

The latest series of Celebrity Big Brother gets off to a good start for Channel Four last night while Wallander beats Agatha Christie’s Poirot on ITV.

The latest and final series of Celebrity Big Brother launched well on Channel Four last night though some viewers may be left scratching their heads and wondering just who some of the “celebrities” are.

According to overnight figures a peak audience of 6.7 million viewers watched the series with an average of 5.9 million viewers. These figures are higher than those for last year when an average of 5.2 million tuned in.

Drama wise and a new Poirot film on ITV1 – Three Act Tragedy – was seen by 4.9 million. The figure is considerably higher than the Christmas Day film Appointment With Death which was seen by 3.7 million viewers. However, although the latest film saw an increase in ratings it wasn’t enough to see off Swedish detective drama Wallander on BBC One. The second episode in the new series was seen by 5.3 million viewers.
