The BBC has axed the Jennifer Saunders comedy series Jam and Jerusalem after BBCthree seasons. While the comedy has never attracted huge audiences it had built up a loyal following over the course of its three seasons and fans will no doubt be disappointed to hear of the comedy’s demise. The series revolves around the Women’s Guild of Clatterford [in America the series airs as Clatterford] and starred Sue Johnston, Maggie Steed, Sally Phillips, David Mitchell, Pauline McLynn, Dawn French, Susie Aitchison and Jennifer Saunders. Joanna Lumley and Doreen Mantle starred in the first two seasons of the series before departing.

A third series of Jam and Jerusalem aired in the Autumn on BBC One but was shown as three one hour episodes, instead of the six half-hour episodes as originally intended. The BBC confirmed the shows demise to ATV News earlier today after rumours the series hadn’t been renewed began to circulate. The third series averaged four million viewers in the Sunday evening slot it was shown in.
