Soaps Ratings Boosted By Snow

Poor weather conditions boosted soap audiences last night – topping the day was EastEnders with over 11 million viewers.
The BBC1 soap which will next month celebrate its 25th anniversary picked up 11.04m viewers a 41.9% share of the audience between 7.30pm and 8.00pm. The episode introduced several characters who will feature in the new online spin-off series E20. At 10.00pm the BBC Three repeat of the show was seen by 1m viewers which gives the episode a combined total audience of 12 million viewers. Earlier in the evening at 7.00pm Celebrity Mastermind featuring EastEnders star Diane Parish did well attracting 6.4m viewers. Following EastEnders at 8.00pm was the latest instalment of Holby City which enjoyed a strong 6.74m viewers equating to a 24.9% share of the available audience.
Meanwhile over on ITV1 at 7.00pm Emmerdale was boosted with 8m viewers tuning in for the latest antics from the village. The figure is the soaps strongest performance in several months and ironic considering location filming for Emmerdale had to be cancelled yesterday due to the snow. While the bad weather causes problems behind-the-scenes it seems to be doing wonders for the soaps ratings performance. With the snow set to continue throughout today its likely Emmerdale will enjoy another strong episode tonight.
