National Television Awards prove ratings hit for ITV
The National Television Awards proved to be a ratings hit for ITV last night as over 7 million tune in which is 2 million more than the previous awards ceremony in 2008.
Last night’s broadcast of the National Television Awards ceremony, which was held at the 02 Arena in London, proved to be a ratings hit for ITV. According to early figures 7.4 million viewers tuned in for the awards ceremony which saw a special performance by John and Edward Grimes – the controversial X-Factor contestants. The figures are an impressive 2 million up on the last awards ceremony which took place in 2008. The 2009 ceremony was delayed by ITV because the broadcaster was struggling with budgets for its output. The strong performance of the awards may be in part due to a lacklustre night of television in which there was little else to watch. Football on BBC One didn’t perform too well with only 4.3 million watching the Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers game. Celebrity Big Brother on Channel Four was seen by 2.5 million.
