Emmerdale tops 9 million

ITV Yorkshire soap Emmerdale had another strong night toppling 9 million viewers as it continues its impressive run of ratings this week. Meanwhile EastEnders also enjoyed strong ratings with the arrival of Glenda Mitchell attracting over 10 million viewers.

Emmerdale continued its impressive run of ratings this week thanks to the continuing adverse weather. The serial, produced by ITV in Leeds, has enjoyed its strongest performance in years thanks to snowed in viewers opting for television than the cold. On Wednesday evening the Yorkshire soap pulled in 8.4 million viewers but last night it beat even that as 9 million viewers tuned in – the soaps best performance in several years.

The 7pm episode drew in 8.3 million but it was the 8pm episode that proved to be the big hit with 9 million viewers tuning in which peaked at an impressive 9.5 million viewers! At 8.30 Coronation Street had 10.6 million viewers – a strong performance for the soap which had lagged behind EastEnders so far this year.

EastEnders itself had another high rated episode with slightly more viewers than Coronation Street as 10.68 million viewers tuned in to see Glenda Mitchell [Glynis Barber] arrive in Walford. The 10pm BBC Three repeat added 826, 000 viewers giving a combined audience of over 11 million viewers. Daytime soap Doctors also benefited from the poor weather with 2.4 million viewers tuning in.The medical drama has also enjoyed its best performance in months thanks to the weather conditions.
