Days of our Lives actress Frances Reid passes away
Actress Frances Reid, known to millions of fans as Alice Horton in NBC series Days of our Lives, has passed away at the age of 95.
Actress Frances Reid has passed away at the age of 95. To millions of fans in America she’ll be known as matriarch Alice Horton in the NBC soap Days of Our Lives – a role she played since the first episode of the soap. Her first role in the world of soap was in 1954 in the series Portia Faces Life but Reid quit after a few months because of the workload but in 1959 she returned to the soap genre as Grace Baker in As the World Turns – it was recently announced by CBS the long-running soap had been cancelled. Following a three year stint in that soap she appeared in The Edge of Night and Wagon Train.
When Ted Corday offered Reid the role of matriarch Alice in his new soap Days of our Lives she was initially hesitant but she accepted and remained with the soap for over 40 years – winding down her appearances in the soap in the 2000’s. As well as television the actress appeared in numerous plays and Broadway productions but undoubtedly it’ll be her role of Alice that she’ll be best remembered for. In 1979 she was nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actress award in the Daytime Emmy’s and in 1987 she received her second nominatation this time for the lead actress category. In 2004 she received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
