It’s been announced that Casualty actress Gillian Kearney will make her final appearance on the BBC drama next month following a two year stint in the medical series. She will make her final appearance as nurse Jessica Harrison at the end of February after an eventful two years in the Casualty department of Holby City Hospital. Two years may be a short stint compared to some but its been dramatic none the less as Jessica’s ordeals include the break up of her marriage, an affair with colleague Adam and the New Year’s Eve car crash that killed her baby son. So it’s hardly surprising after all that the character will be departing.
Kearney joined the cast of Casualty two years ago fresh from a two season stint in the popular Channel Four drama Shameless where she played Sue – girlfriend of Marty. In the 1980s she was a regular in Liverpool based soap Brookside where she played Debbie; girlfriend of Damon Grant. The couple appeared in their own ‘soap bubble’ together in which the character of Damon Grant was killed off. Kearney’s other high profile roles include the ITV remake of the Forsythe Saga in 2002 followed by her role in the ill-fated Sweet Medicine; a Peak Practice style drama without the huge ratings.
