The second episode of the new season of E4’s critically acclaimed teen-drama Skins continued its strong ratings performance last night although figures were down slightly on last week’s strong season opener. According to overnight figures the second episode of the fourth season – which focused on the character of Emily [Kathryn Prescott] was seen by 845,000 viewers with a further 120,000 viewers watching on the E4 time-shift channel. Skins returned to the channel last week with a strong 1.1 million viewers but last night’s figure is still a strong performance for the teen drama. ITV2’s Billie Piper fronted drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl struggled in the ratings last night with just under 500,000 viewers – a drop from last week’s opening episode which attracted 600,000 viewers. The drama, based on the blogs of Belle De Jour, is currently in its third season.
On terrestrial television and BBC One’s fashion drama Material Girl continued its poor run of ratings with 2.3 million viewers. The drama loosely based on the book Fashion Babylon written by Imogen Edward-Jones and stars Lenora Crichlow and Dervla Kirwan but has so far failed to make an impact on the ratings – all the episodes have logged under 3 million viewers so far. However, the drama faces stiff competition from ITV1 in the form of Emmerdale and Coronation Street which partially explains its poor run so far. Following Material Girl at 9pm was Silent Witness with 5.6 million viewers. Up against the forensic drama on ITV1 was The Bill which was seen by 3.9 million viewers – up somewhat from the 3.5 million who tuned in last week.
