cbsEntertainment Weekly is reporting that cancelled soap As the World Turns is determined to go out with a bang and is in serious talks with film actress Julianne Moore to reprise her roles on the CBS soap. Moore joined As the World Turns in 1985 playing the dual roles of Frannie and Sabrina Hughes and remained with the soap until 1988 – the same year she won a Daytime Emmy. Moore was most recently seen in the film A Single Man that also starred Colin Firth in a role that won him a BAFTA.

As The World Turn is due to end in September after being cancelled by CBS because of low ratings – the series has been on air for 54 years. CBS cancelled another soap last year – Guiding Light – which had run for 72 years because of poor ratings. While CBS declined to comment over the possibility of Moore reprising her roles in the final episodes of the soap its expected her return wouldn’t form a significant part of the finale.

Julianne Moore wasn’t the only actress to start life on the soap before moving onto bigger things; Meg Ryan, Marisa Tomei, Parker Posey, Amy Ryan, Dana Delany, Lauryn Hill, Emmy Rossum and Martin Sheen all had roles in the CBS soap at some point.
