Shameless actor Sean Gilder, who plays gangster Paddy Maguire, has Sean Gilder decided to quit the Channel Four drama. The actor will bow out later this year after four years in the hit Channel Four drama. The actor is the latest to quit the series; actresses Rebecca Ryan who played Debbie Gallagher decided to quit the drama and did not return for the seventh season – currently airing on Channel Four. The character’s absence was explained away with Debbie supposedly having joined the army. Ryan was an original cast member in Shameless having appeared since its first episode. Actress Dystin Johnson, who played lesbian truckie Norma, also didn’t return for the seventh season for her absence has yet to be explained on-screen.

 

The Sun alleges that actor Sean Gilder quit the drama because of disputes between his co-star Tina Malone who plays Mimi Maguire but a spokesperson for Shameless denied this was the case. The actor made his first appearance in the drama in a season two episode in 2005 reappearing again in 2006 in a season three episode. It wasn’t until the start of season four in 2007 that the actor became a regular on the series following the departures of actors Maxine Peake, Dean Lennox Kelly, Jack Deam and Gillian Kearney in their respective roles.
