The second part of BBC Two’s behind-the-scenes look at posh high-street department store John Lewis held steady last night with nearly 3 million viewers tuning in. Elsewhere teen-drama Gossip Girl reached new heights for ITV2 while football on ITV1 failed to attract mass audiences.
BBC Two’s behind-the-scenes look at posh high-street department store John Lewis held steady last night. The documentary series follows the department half of the partnership [the other half being supermarket Waitrose] as it tries to reverse its fortunes during last year’s economic woos. The second episode detailed the re-launch of John Lewis’ fashion range, a pilot store for a new version of John Lewis, the opening of its new Cardiff branch and redundancies. The documentary covered the unpleasant fact that John Lewis would have to make some of its staff redundant – a controversial thing within the partnership. Inside John Lewis opened strongly last week with 2.8 million viewers peaking at 3.1 million viewers. Last night’s episode held steady with 2.8 million viewers returning showing that the John Lewis documentary is off interest to BBC Two’s viewers. The third and final episode of Inside John Lewis airs next Wednesday on BBC Two.

Elsewhere last night and Masterchef had 4.6 million viewers for BBC One at 8pm while Coast had 2.1 million viewers. ITV’s football offering of Barcelona against VfB Stuttgart didn’t interested many with only 3 million viewers – Inside John Lewis was only slightly behind between 9pm and 10pm. Relocation, Relocation had 2.5 million for Channel Four at 8pm whole Desperate Housewives at 10pm interested 1.4 million viewers. Gossip Girl on ITV2 continued to perform strongly with 281,000 viewers – an increase of 40,00 on last weeks ratings and giving the drama a new series high.
