Keith Duffy to leave Coronation Street
Boyzone singer Keith Duffy has announced he will be leaving ITV soap Coronation Street at the end of his current contract. Duffy returned to the Manchester soap earlier this year reprising his role of Ciaran McCarthy but has decided not to continue in the role.
Keith Duffy has announced he will not be extending is contract with Coronation Street and will leave the ITV soap later this year. The Boyzone singer rejoined the soap earlier this year reprising his role of Ciaran McCarthy having previously enjoyed a three year stint in the soap playing the barman. The actor was one of several returns lined up by producers as the soap entered its 50th year with Kate Ford returning shortly as super-bitch Tracy Barlow.
According to Sunday tabloid The People the producers were keen to extend Duffy’s contract with the soap but the actor declined. The singer will join his Boyzone collegues in a tour of East Asia next week and last week the Irish group released their first album since the death of Stephen Gately. This week on ITV they’ll be a special concert to celebrate the life of Gately who died last year.
