ITV’s Stephen Gately tribute a hit with viewers

Stephen GatelyITV’s tribute to the late singer and actor Stephen Gately was seen by 7.5 million viewers last night while BBC Two’s Wonders of the Solar System also proved to be a bit with audiences.


Stephen GatelyITV’s tribute to the late Boyzone singer Stephen Gately proved to be a hit with audiences last night. ITV aired a special tribute to the singer who died last year and saw Boyzone, and others, perform in honour of the actor and singer. According to overnight figures 7.5 million viewers tuned in to witness the tribute. Boyzone: A Tribute to Stephen Gately aired between the two editions of Dancing On Ice on ITV1.



BBC One period drama Lark Rise to Candleford had 5.9 million viewers while the concluding Professor Brian Coxpart of David Dimbleby’s Seven Ages of Britain had 3.3 million viewers – slightly down on previous weeks. At 9pm on BBC Two the third instalment of Wonders of the Solar System, fronted by Professor Brian Cox, continued to be a draw for viewers. The third episode looked at Saturn’s Moon Titan as well as closure looks at Venus, Mercury and the effects of different atmosphere have – 3 million viewers tuned in to see the episode. On Channel Four at the same time George Clarke fronted series Restoration Man had 2 million viewers.


David Cameron and Sir Trevor McDonaldLater in the evening on ITV1 Mary Nightingale’s interview with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg had 1 million viewers. It follows the channels interviews with David Cameron and Gordon Brown. The Prime Minister was interviewed by Piers Morgan on the former Mirror editor’s show, Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, and was seen by 4 million viewers. Last week David Cameron was interviewed by Sir Trevor McDonald which was seen by just 1.6 million viewers.
