Foyle’s War beats A Passionate Woman

ITVThe return of war-time detective drama Foyle’s War to ITV1 last night proved to be more popular than BBC One’s new two-part Kay Mellor drama, A Passionate Woman. According to ovenight ratings the drama starring Billie Piper and Sue Johnston was seen by 4.7 million viewers.

ITVAccording to overnight ratings it was Foyle’s War which had the lead over BBC One’s new two-part Kay Mellor drama, A Passionate Woman. The drama set in the 1950s and starring Billie Piper and Sue Johnson chronicles an affair that has consquences decades later and opened with 4.7 million viewers. However, the return of war-time drame Foyle’s War, starring Michael Kitchen and revived by ITV after it was axed because it was too expensive, had 6 million viewers. The figure is less though than the 7 million viewers who tuned in last year for the opening of what was billed as Foyle’s War last season.

Elsewhere last night continuing coverage of the Masters golf tournament on BBC Two had 2.9 million viewers – up by nearly a million on Saturday – with a peak of 3.8 million viewers. On Channel Four Come Dine With Me had 2.3 million viewers while The Restoration Man had 1.6 million viewers.
