Lynda Bellingham returns to Oxo Ads

Lynda Bellingham on ITV's Loose Women, 2010

Actress and Loose Women panellist Lynda Bellingham will appear in her first Oxo advert for over ten years tonight. Bellingham played the “Oxo Mum” in a series of adverts, 42 in all, spanning 23 years – one of the longest running advertising campaigns. The “Oxo Family” were a regular fixture of adverts for many years but they were axed in 1999. Although Bellingham was already a well known face on television the adverts helped secure her as a house-hold name.

Tonight will mark her first appearance in an Oxo advert in ten years but she won’t be reprising her role of the “Mum”. Instead Bellingham is part of a new campaign by Oxo involving high profile stars appearing as themselves offering tips to viewers on creating recipes using Oxo. Other celebrities which will be involved in the campaign include Craig Revel-Horwood, Kirsty Gallacher and Terry Venables according to The Daily Mail.

The advert featuring Bellingham will air tonight during Britain’s Got Talent on ITV. Aside from appearing in the adverts and being a panellist in Loose Women the actress has had regular roles in dramas such as General Hospital and All Creatures Great and Small, guest starred in Blakes 7, Doctor Who and The Bill and also appeared as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
