The producers of Australian soap Neighbours are launching a talent search in the UK to find an actress to play a new character. The winner of the competition will be rewarded with a four week contract in the soap.
The new character will be called Poppy Rogers and will be a friend of Mal Kennedy [Benjamin McNair] and will arrive in Ramsay Street and stay with the soaps two most popular characters – Susan [Jackie Woodburne] and Karl Kennedy [Alan Fletcher].
“It launched the careers of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce so this really is a life-changing chance. Millions watch Neighbours in the UK and there is huge untapped talent in the country.” – Richard Woolfe, channel controller on Five
Hopefuls must be over the age of 18 and can apply by uploading an audition tape to You Tube for Be A Star On Neighbours. Bosses at Five and the soap’s producers, Freemantle Media Australia, will go through the entries and pick five.
Then the public will narrow the search down to two. The final two will fly to Melbourne to rehearsals where producers will then pick the winner. Neighbours celebrated its 25th anniversary last month in March but is expected to hold back the major celebrations for its 6000th episode which will air later this year.
