New addition to the cast of Hollyoaks Sheree Murphy, who previously played Barmaid Trisha in Emmerdale, has spoken about the forthcoming changes being made to the soap by new producer Paul Marquess. Murphy is joining the cast of the Channel Four soap as Eva, the long-lost mother of Anita Roy and will make her first appearance on-screen next week. Murphy is one of several new characters that will be introduced to Hollyoaks to turn around its fortunes and boost flagging ratings. The actress has spoken to Holy Soap about her role and the future of the soap.
“I think everyone’s trying to be positive about the new changes rather than think about the whole thing being axed. The new producer has been brought in for a reason and that’s to change things around so regardless of what happens in the future you have to look at now. He’s going to make big changes and improve everything if that’s what it needs.” – Sheree Murphy speaking to Holy Soap.
Over the Easter peroid ratings for Hollyoaks sunk to below 1 million viewers prompting some tabloids to speculate the soap could be axed. However, new producer Paul Marquess was brought in to takeover the soap, from Lucy Allen, in January. Having previous stints at Brookside, The Bill and Familly Affairs [concidentally all axed afterwards] its hoped Marquess can turn around the soap; he’s axed a string of characters already and signed up new additions.
