NBC green-lights Law & Order: Los Angeles

NBCThe Law & Order franchise is to expand once more as NBC green-lights the proposed new spin-off series Law & Order: Los Angeles.

 

 

NBCAccording to Deadline.com NBC has given the green light to the next spin-off in the Law & Order franchise. The new spin-off, set in Los Angeles, was first suggested several months ago and has been in development since. NBC has now ordered a 13 part series which will be written by franchise creator Dick Wolf and Brotherhood creator Blake Masters. The new spin-off will be the first American Law & Order series set outside of New York.

 

Deadline.com also reports that fellow spin-off series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit ahs been renewed for a 12th season although there will be some budget cuts with filming starting in June for new episodes. Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have both signed up for new episodes on a one-year contract. Deadline.com also reports that parent show Law & Order is likely to be renewed for a record-breaking 21st season with TNT, who show the crime/legal drama on cable, possibly coming in with funding to help with production.

 

With the new spin-off series the Law & Order franchise will consist of the parent show alongside Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order Los Angeles and Law & Order: UK.
