An upcoming plot in Emmerdale will see one of the residents of the Yorkshire village try to commit suicide. Aaron Livesy [Danny Miller] who is currently struggling to come to terms with his sexuality will try to commit suicide later this year. The teenager will try and end his life when he comes worried that he’ll be outed in the village as gay. The storyline will kick off when he attacks his boyfriend Jackson Walsh to stop him revealing their relationship – but this results in him being questioned by the Police.

Realising the trouble he’s in and how it’s likely his sexuality will come out Aaron decides to return to the village and tries to gay himself in his car rather than be outed to everyone. While the suicide bid fails in then end when he’s rescued by his uncle, Cain [Jeff Hordley], and friend Adam [Adam Thomas] he later tells Paddy [Dominic Brunt] he wishes he was dead.

“It’s make or break time but Aaron is terrified of what the future holds, and he feels ending it all is the only way out. It’s like he’s been backed into a corner. “He feels a mixture of raw emotions really. Scared, angry, depressed. He tells Paddy he wishes he was dead. Ironically, this marks the start of Aaron’s journey, not the end as he intended. He’s going to have to come to terms with who he is.”Danny Miller quoted in The Sun

The scenes will air later this month on Emmerdale and will highlight the struggle some teenagers go through when coming to terms with their sexuality. Suicide rates amongst gay teenagers are higher than those amongst their heterosexual counterparts and this storyline will raise awareness of those issues and the plight some go through while coming to terms with their sexuality orientation.
