Broadcaster USA is to give the myths and legends of Robin Hood a modern-day makeover in one of several new projects announced today.
American broadcaster USA is developing a new series based around the legends/myths of Robin Hood but with a twist or two; firstly it’s set in the modern day and second the central character is female. It’s not hard to see why the idea of a ‘modern-day’ Robin Hood could be appealing to a broadcaster especially given the public anger surrounding bankers’ bonus and those making a profit out of the recession while millions feel the pinch. The idea of someone standing up to all that and taking from the bankers and giving to the poor certainly has dramatic potential and is hugely topical – so its hardly surprising someone has run with the idea. The new spin on Robin Hood is just one of several projects announced today by Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming at USA.
“With the proven power of the ‘Characters Welcome’ brand guiding our development, USA has produced a stunning track record of No. 1 new original series for four consecutive years, and has grown the network into a trusted destination for quality programming. These new projects all combine strong characters and superior storytelling, offering viewers the kind of exceptionally written, aspirational originals they won’t find anywhere else.” – Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming at USA.
“Robyn” is the title for the new project which will be executive produced, and written, by Becky Hartman Edwards whose previous credits include Parenthood and the American version of Life On Mars. Other projects announced today by the broadcaster include A Legal Mind written by Aaron Korsh and executive produced by David Bartis and Gene Klein it revolves around a college drop out who teams up with a corporate lawyer. Stick, about a hockey player who helps people the law can’t, from Mark Altman and Steve Krozere and two FBI dramas’s along with two as yet untitled projects.
