BSA Nominations 2010

The British Soap Awards are back and set to be bigger than ever as it looks back over another year of tears, trials, tribulations and tantrums from the nation’s biggest TV shows.

ITV have released today this years viewer voted nominations.

The British Soap Awards honour outstanding achievement in the country’s most popular television genre. There are 17 awards and categories are voted for either by a panel of expert judges or by the public and include Sexiest Male and Female, Best Actor and Actress, Best Comedy Performance, Villain of the Year, Spectacular Scene of the Year, Best On-Screen Partnership and the ultimate accolade, Best British Soap which was last year won by EastEnders.

This year nominations for Sexiest Male include Ben Price as Nick Tilsley, Keith Duffy as Ciran McCarthy for Coronation Street with John Partridge as Christian Clarke and Marc Elliott nominated for EastEnders. Emmerdale’s suggested hunks include James Thornton as John Barton and Jeff Hordley as Cain Dingle.

The line-up for the Sexiest Female award includes Helen Flanagan as Rosie Webster, Michelle Keegan as Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street, EastEnders nominations include Preeya Kalidas as Amira Masood, Samantha Womack as Ronnie Mitchell while Emmerdale’s Charley Webb as Debbie Dingle and Sammy Winward as Katie Sugden are listed.

More meaningful awards such as Villain of the Year have in the running Gray O’Brien as Tony Gordon in Coronation Street, Don Gilet as Lucas Johnson in EastEnders, Sian Reeves for Emmerdale and Jamie Lomas as Warren Fox in Hollyoaks.

Best Actor nominations include Chris Gascoyne as Coronation Street’s Peter Barlow, Adam Woodyatt as Ian Beale in EastEnders, Danny Miller for Emmerdale as Aaron Livesy and Hollyoaks’ Ricky Whittle as Calvin Valentine. The Best Actress nominations include Lacey Turner as EastEnders’ Stacey Branning, Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly as Becky McDonald, Amanda Donohoe as Emmerdale’s Natasha Wylde and for Hollyoaks Jennifer Metcalfe as Mercedes Fisher.

Other gongs include Best Storyline which this year sees Peter’s Alcoholism for Coronation Street, Zara’s Revenge for Doctors, Who Killed Archie? for EastEnders and Aaron’s Gay Self-Loathing for Emmerdale as the nominated plots.

Of course all the soaps will be hoping to win the top award of Best British Soap, which was won again last year by EastEnders. However it seems about time Emmerdale won, after all it’s the nations most popular soap set in Yorkshire…

The saga ceremony as usual will be hosted by Phillip Schofield with awards being presented by some of the entertainment worlds most famous faces, there’s everything to play for in the soap world’s ‘Oscars’. On ITV2 The British Soap Awards 2010: Let’s Party will see Michael Underwood and Angellica Bell at the Soap Awards party, celebrating with the winners, commiserating with those that missed out on glory.
