Liberal Democrats and Labour to start formal talks over forming a coalition government

Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, has confirmed that formal talks between the Labour Party and Liberal Democrats will open over forming a new Government. Although the Lib Dems will continue discussions with the Conservatives talks between the party and Labour will also begin on a formal level. Giving a statement outside Downing Street Gordon Brown announced he had spoken to Nick Clegg about the opening of formal talks. The Prime Minister also announced he will resign as leader of the Labour Party, step down as Prime Minister and that a new leader of the Labour Party will be selected in due course.
