They’ll be one less reisdent on Wisteria Lane next season as a cast member of Desperate Housewives announces their departure. According to Entertainment Weekly actor Kyle MacLachlan has quit his role of dentist Orson Hodge on the soapy ABC drama series. The actor joined the cast of Orson at the end of Season Two and became a regular for the third season onwards following his marriage to Bree [Marcia Cross]. His character was the “central mystery” of the third season as audiences were left wondering if he had murdered his ex wife and then later his mistress.

It’s been rumoured for some time now that actor Kyle MacLachlan, still remembered for his role in the bonkers drama Twin Peaks, will be quitting Desperate Housewives. It’s likely though MacLachlan will appear in a few episodes of the next season to tie up the loose ends of his storylines with Bree. The actor isn’t the only one who’ll be mostly absent next season with another high profile absentee from Desperate Housewives being Dana Delany who has left for her new ABC series, Body of Proof.

However, they’ll be some new blood on Wisteria Lane as former Ugly Betty actress Vanessa Williams will be joining the cast. Mark Mosses will also be returning full time as Paul Young, last seen in season three, and its rumoured that actress Harriet Samson Harris will also re-appear as Felicia Tillman last seen in season two framing Paul for her murder – in revenge for his murder of her sister, Martha, in season one.
