A Family Affair For Coronation Street

As part of Coronation Street’s 50th anniversary celebrations the children of William Roache are to appear in the Weatherfield saga. James and Linus will feature later in the year, the latter appeared in the soap previously as Peter Barlow as a child actor in 1975.

The sons of Roache – the longest serving cast member of the ITV Granada serial – will form part of a storyline which sees a 50-year-old secret come to light in September.

ITV say: “Ken discovers the dark family secret when a letter from the 1960’s is unearthed during building work. But his desire to dredge up the past causes friction with Deirdre and Peter.”

Linus Roache became most famous for his role as Michael Cutter in the American Series of Law and Order. Other roles include in Batman Begins and Robert F Kennedy series, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.. Linus also briefly played the role of Peter Barlow in Coronation Street as a child in 1975.

James Roache has appeared in ITV1 drama Cold Blood and the Innocence Project for the BBC. William’s late wife, Sara Roache [Pictured Right on his This Is Your Life],  also starred in Corrie as a judge.

William told ITV “I can think of no better way to celebrate my 50th anniversary on Coronation Street than to be working alongside both of my sons – I am looking forward to it immensely.”

The BBC are also celebrating Coronation Street’s 50th year with a documentary-drama charting the beginnings of Britain’s longest running continuous drama serial. Florenzel Street – the working title for Corrie – will air on BBC Four.
