Sky News correspondent Adam Boulton was involved in an on-air spat with Alistair Campbell yesterday following the news that Gordon Brown was to step down as Prime Minister. The two started to argue on-air after Alistair Campbell accused the Sky News correspondent of wanting David Cameron as Prime Minister. This provoked a strong response from Boulton who accused Campbell of trying to tell him what his thoughts were. The spat was aired live on television and was in response to the news that formal talks between Labour and the Liberal Democrats would open as Gordon Brown announced his decision to step down.

The spat between Boulton and Campbell comes just days after Sky News anchor Kay Burley was criticised for an “aggressive” interview with David Dabbs, of a lobbying group for electoral change. Some angry viewers took to the internet to demand Sky News sacked Burley after said to Dabbs “Your views are not going to sway the people that are talking behind closed doors at the moment, are they?” Burley said to Babbs. “The public have voted for a hung parliament. We have got exactly what we voted for… so you marching down past Westminster today will make no difference whatsoever”Why don’t you go home and watch it on Sky News?””

Boulton himself came under fire during the election for his “heckling” of Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg during the Second Leader’s Debate which aired on Sky News. When the topic of the expenses scandal was raised Boulton tried to challenge Clegg over allegations printed in newspapers such as The Daily Telegraph. This so-called “heckling” of Clegg prompted some viewers to complaint to Ofcom. Meanwhile the Murdoc Empire as a whole has been criticised for trying to “run” the election and tell the electorate who to vote into power.
