Corrie Returns To ITV – Next Week

ITV Granada have decided not to screen Coronation Street for the third night in a row following the shooting incident in Cumbria on Wednesday morning.

An ITV spokesman said: “We apologise to ITV1 viewers for the interruption to this week’s Coronation Street scheduling but, against the backdrop of Wednesday’s tragic events in Cumbria, it would have been inappropriate to broadcast these episodes this week.”

The Manchester-produced serial is in the middle of a hostage storyline which sees a shooting, resulting in a death – and later an explosion. Due to the nature of the storyline ITV will now not screen any further episodes this week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s episodes will now be shown next week, as part of a re-worked schedule instead.

Bear with us, as we explain the new schedule for ITV1, UTV, CTV and STV viewers. On Monday June 7th at 7.30pm the episode that was due to air on Wednesday night will transmit. An hour later and the edition from Thursday will be broadcast.

Wednesday the 9th June ITV will screen at 8.00pm the Coronation Street, which should have been broadcast tonight at 9.00pm. Straight after this episode the episode, which should have aired at 7.30pm on Monday, will transmit.

Thursday sees changes to not only Coronation Street but Emmerdale; The two half hour shows will now broadcast back to back from 7.00 to 8.00pm. This leaves Coronation Street to broadcast in an hour-long slot from 8.00pm. The first screening being what was scheduled originally for Monday at 8.30pm. The second edition brings the programme up to date, with the episode as planned for June 10th.

Both Friday editions for June 11th will air as planned at 7.30pm and 8.30pm. Coronation Street relaunched on Monday in HD with new look opening titles and re-worked theme tune. The schedules for both Monday and Tuesday had proved a success for ITV with ratings beating BBC One for both Corrie and Britain’s Got Talent. Fans of the street have been left wondering what will happen as warped Tony Gordon returns to Weatherfield to take revenge on those he feels have wronged him.
