ITV orders sixth season of Wild at Heart

ITV has ordered a sixth season of African drama series Wild at Heart which stars Stephen Tompkinson and Dawn Steele.

ITV has confirmed it has renewed popular Sunday evening drama series Wild at Heart for a sixth season. The series, based on Africa, has proven hugely popular with audiences as ratings have averaged 8 million for recent years which have secured the shows future despite it being an expensive production. Actors Stephen Tompkinson, Dawn Steele and Hayley Mills will all return for the sixth season which will run for ten episodes. Amanda Holden, now a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, appeared in the first three seasons.

Wild at Heart has been re-commissioned by ITV’s director of drama, Laura Mackie. It has done well to escape the cull of drama at the broadcaster over the past 18 months which has resulted in the demise of Wire in the Blood, Heartbeat, The Royal. Kingdom and The Bill. While its ratings success undoubtedly secured its return Sci Fi series Primeval, which had beaten Robin Hood in its Saturday evening slot, was dropped by ITV because of it was expensive. Only a co-production deal between ITV and other broadcasters saved Primeval in the end with two further seasons to follow.
