Just a day after it was revealed that ITV had axed David Dickinson’s chat-show a tabloid is claiming that the broadcaster has signed up Michael Ball to host a new series. According to The Sun ITV are going to try out Michael Ball as a chat-show host in the 3pm slot in the hope of finding another successful series. ITV want to find a new chat-show to alternate with Alan Titchmarsh in the 5pm slot – ala Richard & Judy and Paul O’Grady on Channel Four. They were hoping that David Dickinson would be there man but yesterday it was announced – as we predicted in May – that his chat-show would be axed.

According to The Sun the Michael Ball fronted chat-show is due to launch in the summer and will be a mix of entertainment, discussion, showbiz and a few tunes from Ball himself. ITV has long since desired to find a successful chat-show but has had flops with Sharon Osbourne, Bradley Walsh, Anthony Cotton and now David Dickinson. While it had success with Paul O’Grady he defected to Channel Four and although he is now returning to ITV it’ll be in a prime-time slot. ITV also had success with Alan Titchmarsh who was promoted to the 5pm slot earlier this year after several years at 3pm.
