Kate Garraway to form part of Daybreak team

ITV has revealed that current GMTV presenter Kate Garraway will form part of the new Daybreak team when the breakfast programme launches in the Autumn. The broadcaster has also revealed other Daybreak team members.

Kate Garraway has been named as Daybreak’s Entertainment Editor, while former GMTV Newshour presenter John Stapleton is Special Correspondent. Dr Hillary Jones, who has been GMTV’s resident doctor since 1993 will continue his position as Health Editor. New recruits include former Sky News Ireland presenter Grainne Seoige, who becomes Features editor. Current Sky News showbiz correspondent Steve Hargrave will join Daybreak as entertainment correspondent.

It has also been announced that L.A Correspondent Carla Romano and TV reporter Richard Arnold will be departing. They’re departures are the latest in a very long line of exits from GMTV in the past few years stretching back to Fiona Phillips through to, more recently, Penny Smith and Andrew Castle.

“Daybreak plays a key part in ITV’s ongoing transformation and reflects the fact that creative renewal lies at the heart of our schedule, which is being modernised and improved under Peter Fincham. – Alison Sharman, ITV.

Earlier this year Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley defected from the BBC to ITV. They will be the main presenters of Daybreak, which is due to begin this September. ITV hope the re-branded programme will turn around the flagging fortunes of the breakfast slot which has seen ratings tumble and its reputation damaged by the premium phone-in scandals.
