New Zealand soap Shortland Street is to return to UK screens later this month.
Living TV has picked up the soap, which use to air on various ITV regions through the 90s until 2003. It will be airing double bills from 3pm from Monday 23rd August. The Kiwi soap remains popular with viewers in it’s native home, along with a strong following in Ireland. The show is broadcast in Ireland on RTE. Living tell us that they will be starting the soap with episodes from 2007 onwards.
“The series follows the personal and professional drama surrounding a group of dedicated doctors at an Auckland hospital. Viewers can learn what has kept TV fans in New Zealand hooked for 18 years, as some of the most exciting episodes reintroduce the intense and emotional show to British audiences.” A Living statement read.
Yesterday in New Zealand, a feature length 90 minute episode aired in which Kieran Mitchell, played by former Corrie actor Adam Rickett, past caught up with him. It involved their first used of green screen technology.
And Living viewers will see Rickett regularly in the show as the storyline is picked up with his arrival to the saga: “The action focuses on Kieran Mitchell (Adam Rickett), a handsome young Englishman who moves to New Zealand to open a bar and becomes entangled in scandal and crime in Ferndale, the fictitious suburb where the series is set. It is not just a tense love triangle with volatile Claire and sweet-natured Libby that is troubling Kieran. He also has a secret and unsavoury past that threatens to destroy his new life in New Zealand when a mysterious woman named Suchin comes looking for him.”
We also hear romance isn’t his only woes as a serial killer is on the loose and it isn’t long before people start pointing their fingers in his direction.
