Tamzin Outhwaite would return to EastEnders

Tamzin Outhwaite has revealed she could consider returning to BBC One soap EastEnders if producers decided to bring her character of Mel Healy back to Albert Square. Outhwaite starred in the soap between 1998 and 2002 playing memorable storylines such as marrying Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and later Steve Owen (Martin Kemp). Mel was also one of the suspects in the shooting of Phil Mitchell (Steven McFadden) when the unpopular Albert Square resident was shot in 2001. After four years in the soap the actress decided to quit to peruse other roles but has revealed she would be willing to return to EastEnders if asked by producers.

I’ve never officially been asked. I wouldn’t see it as a bad thing but, at the moment, it’s not something that I’m looking into. I don’t know how Mel would return because there’s no-one there for her to return to. She doesn’t really know anyone apart from Ian Beale and Phil Mitchell. So unless she was coming back to see one of them…” – Tamzin Outhwaite quoted on Holy Soap

The actress is currently one of the judges on Channel Five’s new talent contest Don’t Stop Believing. Since quitting EastEnders in 2002 the actress has had a wide range of roles in dramas such as Red Cap, The Fixer, Hotel Babylon, Vital Signs and Paradox. In recent years a number of characters has been re-introduced to EastEnders such as Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), Sam Mitchell (Danniellea Westbrook) and Carol Jackson (Lindsay Coulson). Shortly the characters of Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) will return to EastEnders after an absence of several years.
