Actor Michael Stone is to return to ABC’s medical soap General Hospital to reprise his role of Stone Cates. The actor appeared in the daytime soap between 1993 and 1995 as teenager Stone Cates in a ground-breaking storyline his character was HIV Positive and later died from AIDS. The storyline earned the actor two nominations at the daytime Emmy’s for Outstanding Younger actor in 1995 and 1996. His character was romantically involved with another regular on General Hospital, Robin Drake (Kimberly McCullough). Robin’s character is still part of General Hospital having rejoined the cast in 2005 after a stint away – the character also appeared in the spin-off series General Hospital: Night Shift.
While Michael Sutton will be reprising his role on General Hospital his exit from the soap in 1995 won’t be re-written – he’ll still be dead. Instead Stone will appear to Robin when she finds herself in danger. However, producers on the soap are keeping tight-lipped as to what that trouble will be. The character of Robin is currently the only HIV Positive character on Daytime America. Michael Sutton will appear in two episodes of GH at the end of September.
