Foyle’s War producer goes into bankruptcy

The production company behind Foyle’s War, Greenlit, has gone into bankruptcy.

Greenlit, the independent production company behind detective drama Foyle’s War and brand new BBC Two comedy Vexed, has gone into bankruptcy.

The company was part of Target Entertainment, having been bought by them in 2008, but was left out of Target’s sale to Metrodome.

Vexed, starring Toby Stephens, launched on BBC Two on Sunday with impressive ratings while Foyle’s War aired its seventh season earlier this year. Greenlit also produced ITV’s stripped drama Collision.

The company’s staff have been informed of the bankruptcy and original founder Jill Green, who left sold the company in 2008, is reportedly trying to buy back the rights to Foyle’s War.

ITV have stated that the bankruptcy of Greenlit will not affect them however they haven’t been forthcoming in any plans for commissions from the company, placing doubt over the future of Foyle’s War which stars Michael Kitchen.

ITV may have declined to renew the drama for an 8th season – effectively axing the drama again. However, it may also be the broadcaster is waiting to see if Green manages to buy back the rights to the series before commissioning further episodes.
