Poor start for Michael Ball Chat-Show

ITV’s latest attempt at finding a succesful new chat-show, this time with entertainer Michael Ball, got off to a poor start yesterday afternoon with well under 1 million viewers tuning in.

The Michael Ball Show got off to a shaky start yesterday with well under 1 million viewers tuning in. The chat-show is ITV’s latest attempt at finding a successful host following flops with David Dickinson – just earlier this year – and further back Sharon Osbourne and Anthony Cotton. However, ITV has had some success; Alan Titchmarsh was promoted to a 5pm slot following several successful years in the 3pm slot while Paul O’Grady also proved a hit with audiences.

According to overnight ratings The Michael Ball Show opened with 670,000 viewers – not a good start for the chat-show. However, its possible the audience will grow as it continues but the Summer – when most of its obvious audience will either be away on holiday or on days out during the daytime – does seem an odd time to launch a new series. On the eve of the show’s launch entertainer Michael Ball admitted the chat-show could fail and that launching a new series was always a difficult job.

The Michael Ball Show airs daily on ITV1 at 3pm.
