The BBC has revealed that it will air the fourth season of the critically acclaimed drama Mad Men on BBC Four from next month. The fourth season is currently airing on AMC in America and the announcement by the BBC means the gap between UK and USA broadcasts will only be weeks instead of months. The move by the BBC is partly in response to the positive reviews that the fourth series of Mad Men has been attracting but also to deal with illegal downloading of episodes. The fourth season of Mad Men was originally expected to air on BBC Four in January 2011.
BBC Four has shown the first three seasons of Mad Men, with repeats on BBC Two, and the drama has built up a niche following. UK reviews of the drama have also been positive though there was some doubt as to whether the BBC would continue airing the series following its shift away from acquiring US Dramas. Mad Men stars Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, John Slattery, January Jones, Christina Hendricks and Vincent Kartheiser and is based in a 1960s advertising agency in New York. The fourth season is set in 1964 while previous seasons have covered hisorical events such as the Cuba Missile Crisis and the assassination of President John F Kennedy in 1963.
