Overnight ratings figures reveal that over 11 million people tuned in for the launch of the seventh season of The X Factor on ITV1 last night – its best ever launch figure. According to overnight ratings the launch was seen by 11.3 million viewers which is roughly 1.4 million viewers up on last years launch for the sixth season. Last nights edition of the X Factor saw former Spice Girl singer Geri Halliwell join the judges panel as one of the several guests lined up to replace Danni Minogue – who is absent from the auditions stages due to maternity leave. The X Factor peaked at 12 million viewers at one point.

The launch of The X Factor dented ratings elsewhere though with BBC One’s 101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow scoring just 2.8 million viewers followed by John Barrowman’s show Tonight’s The Night which had 3.3 million viewers. Medical drama Casualty at 8.10pm was seen by 3.8 million viewers – suffering badly at the hands of the ITV titan.
