General Hospital actress Leslie Charleson, who plays Monica Quatermaine in the ABC soap, has been dropped from contract to recurring status. The actress is the soaps longest-serving contract player on General Hospital having played the role of Monica for 33 years. However, the actress has now been dropped from the regular/contract cast and will only appear occasionally in General Hospital as a recurring character.
The move ends several years of speculation surrounding Charleson’s future on the ABC daytime soap with rumours that she would leave the series or be demoted to recurring status. The actresses storylines of late have been few and far between and as early as 2004 rumours were abound of Monica Quatermaine being dropped from the show’s line up. The dropping of Charleston means fans of General Hospital will see less of the Quatermaine on their screens in the coming months.
