Joan Cusack joins American Shameless

Actress Joan Cusack has been cast in Showtime’s remake of the Channel Four drama series Shameless; a comedy/drama about a dysfunctional family. The actress will play the role of Shelia in the American remake a part played by Maggie O’Neill in the UK series.

 

Actress Joan Cusack has been cast in Showtime’s remake of the Channel Four drama series Shameless; a comedy/drama about a dysfunctional family. The remake of Shameless has been on the cards for several years with HBO originally interested in remaking the series for American audiences but it was eventually Showtime who commissioned the pilot for the remake and following it a weekly series. Production is due to begin on the American Shameless in several weeks time with it premiering in January on Showtime.

 

Joan Cusack will play the role of Shelia in Shameless; an agoraphobic housewife who strikes up an unlikely relationship with Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy). In the UK version of Shameless Shelia was played by actress Maggie O’Neill in the first four seasons of the drama. Actress Joan Cusack has appeared in a wide variety of roles over the years with her most notable roles being in shows such as Saturday Night Live, Addams Family Values and Toy Story 2 and the recent sequel Toy Story 3.
