ITV has confirmed the finale date for its police-drama series The Bill. After 27 years on-air the London based drama will bow out at the end of August. ITV cancelled the drama earlier this year following disappointing ratings for the re-launched drama. The Bill was revamped last year and moved to 9pm, with its number of episodes per year halved, with a new grittier CSI style look. The revamp didn’t prove popular with viewers however and the average ratings for episodes of The Bill dropped from 5 million to 3 million. Earlier this year ITV announced it was cancelling the series following the failed revamp – the move prompted criticisms from industry insiders and anger from fans.

It was originally thought that The Bill would conclude in September. However, ITV have now confirmed that the final episode of the series will air on August 31st. The drama will bow-out with a two part story about a gang-land killing which executive producer Jonathan Young has described as “compelling”. Young also said he hoped the episodes would “respect the heritage” of the show. Tabloid speculation has been rife about how the drama will end with some claiming they’ll be a siege within Sun Hill Police Station.
