Days of our Lives to go HD

NBC soap Days of our Lives is to make the switch to HD filming in time for its 45th anniversary.

NBC soap Days of our Lives is to make the switch to HD filming in time for its 45th anniversary, it has been revealed. The last remaining daytime soap on NBC will switch to HD in early November and will be the fourth daytime soap in America to do so. The upgrading to HD is seen as a vote of confidence in the future of Days of our Lives which was facing cancellation only a few years ago. NBC originally stated, several years ago, that it did not see the soap running ‘beyond 2009’ but a rise in ratings saved the day, so to speak.

Now that Days is upgrading to HD fans are more confident in its future as it’ll be a costly affair to upgrade the sets and cameras for HD filming. The move will tie-in with the soaps 45th anniversary later this year. CBS’s The Young and the Restless became the first daytime soap in America to move to HD filming way back in 2001. It wasn’t for sometime though before another soap followed suit – ABC’s medical soap General Hospital. The last soap to move to HD was All My Children, also an ABC soap, when it moved production from New York to Los Angeles.

The only two soaps now not in HD are The Bold and the Beautiful and One Live to Life. ABC is reportedly interested in upgrading OLTL but funding is thought to be the issue. CBS at present, according to sources, has no plans to upgrade B&B.
