Labour MP clashes with Kay Burley

Openly gay Labour MP Chris Bryant clashed with Sky News presenter Kay Burley during a live interview on the news channel. The two clashed as Bryant was being interviewed about the debate in the House of Commons over the News of the World phone hacking allegations which have resurfaced again. Bryant was one of the MP’s leading the debate in the Commons and also believes his own phones were illegally hacked.
Burley and Bryant clashed on Sky News when the MP claimed that hacking was ‘endemic’ within the media industry. Burley responded by asking whether the MP had any evidence for his claim with Bryant replying ‘Well, the Information Commissioner produced a report which if you had listened to the debate earlier yourself then you would know, or if you had read that report then you would see that he referred to more than 1,000 cases in various different newspapers. I think it was something like 800 – I’ve not got the figures with me now – 800 incidences in the Mail alone.”
The interview continued with Burley as the Sky News presenter asked “So you are in a position to have listened to the debate and read the report and as a result you are content to say that on telly.”. Clearly unimpressed with the interview the Bryant replied “I have just said that. You seem to be a bit dim, if you don’t mind me saying so.”
Kay Burley was the subject of complaints from angry viewers during the General Election campaign for an interview she did with a political activist. Burley’s tone during the interview resulted in hundreds of complaints to Ofcom although the media watchdog did not pursue the incident.
