DIVA TV to stop airing The Bold and the Beautiful
UK fans of the American soap The Bold and the Beautiful may no longer be able to watch episodes of the most watched daytime soap in the world as broadcaster DIVA TV announces it is to stop broadcasting episodes from next week. Updated 15th Sept
DIVA TV has revealed that from next week it will no longer be airing episodes of the American daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful. The soap has aired on the UK digital channel for several years and is its top-rated programme – frequently dominating the stations’ top ten rated programmes. The soap even has its own forum on the channel’s official website but despite it being DIVA’s top-rated programme the soap will no longer air on the channel after next week.
The news means that UK fans may no longer be able to watch episodes of the world’s most watched daytime soap. It is unclear if DIVA is to stop airing episodes because another broadcaster has acquired the rights. Among the possible contenders for a new home for the soap are Five USA, the digital channel from Channel Five, and CBS Drama – the UK digital channel. It has not been announced – as yet – if The Bold and the Beautiful is to switch channels or simply disappear from UK audiences.
The soap is set in Los Angeles and revolves around the Forrester and Logan family’s and the fashion business, Forrester Creations – and the very complicated love lives of both families. The four remaining original cast members on the soap are Susan Flannery, John McCook, Katherine Kelly Lang and Ronn Moss with most of the storylines involving their characters. DIVA TV is currently showing episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful from early 2009. In the early 2000s the soap briefly aired on Channel Five but was removed when ratings failed to be as high as fellow American soap Sunset Beach.
Updated 15th September: A spokersperson for the UK digital channel CBS Drama has told ATV Today that there are no current plans for the station to acquire the UK Rights to The Bold and the Beautiful.
