Jessie Wallace was ‘scared’ of EastEnders return

Jessie Wallace has admitted she was ‘scared’ about reprising her role of Kat Slater in EastEnders.

It was announced earlier this year that Jessie Wallace and co-star Shane Richie would return to the BBC One soap after an absence of five years.

“I was really scared at first, I didn’t know what it would feel like to be playing Kat again, because I’d let her go five years ago. As soon as I walked into the Square, though, I felt like I was home. I’m having a brilliant time. Kat’s outfits are as loud as ever!. It doesn’t matter that she’s pregnant – her clothes are still short and skintight. She’s more colourful and mouthy than she was before. I’ve actually really missed it. I’ve missed playing Kat and missed working with Shane.” – Jessie Wallace in Inside Soap

Kat and Alfie (Shane Richie) were a popular couple with fans rooting for them to get and stay together despite a number of obstacles thrown their way. However, Kat is probably best remembered for the plot which saw her reveal to her ‘sister’ Zoe that she is in fact her mum having been raped by their uncle at a young age.

Kat and Alfie are expected back on screen imminently.

Jessie can also be seen tomorrow evening on BBC Four playing Pat Phoenix in a new drama about the creation of Granada soap Coronation Street which celebrates 50 years on-air in December.
