Overnight ratings for The X Factor reveal the ITV talent contest is continuing to dominate the ratings. Yesterday’s edition of the X Factor, which saw Nicole Scherzinger’s stint as a guest Judge, was seen by 10.5 million viewers – peaking at 12 million at one point. Up against the X Factor on BBC One at the same time was fantasy drama Merlin which returned last week for its third season. The second part of the opener, Tears of Uther Pendragon, had 5 million viewers – down on the 5.5 million viewers who tuned in for last week’s opening episode. However, when final figures are released next week the figure is likely to rise somewhat.

Elsewhere last night Casualty also continued to suffer at the hands of the X Factor with 4.6 million viewers while the second series of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow pulled in 4.5 million viewers.
